Subway Golf

Get from Start to Finish by subway, walking as little as you can.

How to play

Build your trip one ride at a time: choose a station to walk to, a line to take, and where to get off. Then ride another line or walk to the finish. Type a line (like A or 7) in the station box to see every stop on it. The map won’t show you where stations are, so you’ll need to know your way around.

Only walking counts. Riding is free however far you go, and so is changing trains inside a station, including connected stations like Times Sq-42 St and 42 St-Port Authority. Walking counts everywhere else: from the start to your first station, between stations if you get off and walk to another, and from your last station to the finish. When you finish, you’ll see how many meters more you walked than the optimal route. 0 meters more than the optimal route is a perfect round.

Walks follow streets and paths the shortest way, measured to the middle of each station. Some aren’t possible at all: there’s no walking route off Staten Island, for one. A new puzzle every day at midnight New York time. The game uses weekday midday service (10 AM to 4 PM), so rush-hour-only and late-night trains don’t count.
